The centre also provides or co-hosts workshops for health care professionals, caregivers and others. The only similar cancer retreat centre in British Columbia is the Callanish Healing Retreats Society in Vancouver, formed in 1997. We are most grateful to the Callanish Society for their assistance and encouragement. Mara Station Retreat Centre offers a variety of programs designed to create an environment of inner healing and peace, personal transformation and empowerment, and connection to others facing similar challenges. Our mission is to help people in their journey with cancer, life-threatening illness or grief to find healing, purpose and transformation. The emphasis is on providing -- in a home-like, tranquil setting -- a variety of professional complementary therapies which together constitute a holistic healing program. These programs must be viewed as a supplement to, and not in substitution for, appropriate medical care. Mara Station Retreat Centre’s Executive Director is a Master’s prepared nurse recognized by the CRNBC and is bound by Standards of Practice and a Code of Ethics. Examples of activities which will not be permitted at Mara Station Retreat Centre (because they are incompatible with these standards) are promotion of specialized alternative treatments/services such as "miracle cures" or branded nutritional supplements. Similarly, retreats will not involve the promotion of any specific set of religious beliefs. |
